Early Learning Gets a Major Boost in State Funding

The Bold Goals Coalition Early Learning Action Network (ELAN) is working to increase the availability of childcare across Central Alabama by collaborating with childcare centers to develop competitive applications for Alabama’s First Class Pre-K Program.

Last month, the Alabama Legislature approved a $24.4-million increase in state funding for Alabama’s First Class Pre-K program! This has resulted in 135 new classrooms across the state, with even more expected to be added ahead of the upcoming school year. Included in this cohort of new classrooms are 38 in our six Central Alabama counties.

This is great news for children and families across the region, and ELAN will continue to work to increase the number of childcare programs applying for First Class Pre-K grants in order to further expand access to quality, early learning for our children.
