Health Action Partnership Annual Summit
April 7, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
JOIN US FOR THE HEALTH ACTION PARTNERSHIP ANNUAL SUMMIT
The Summit is an annual celebration of local efforts and the people who are committed to improving the health of communities across Central Alabama.
This year’s Summit will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Friday, April 7th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in celebration of National Public Health Week. Dr. Mark Wilson will deliver a presentation commemorating the Jefferson County Department of Health’s 100-year anniversary and will discuss the need for successful partnerships to support a strong public health system.
Additional presentations from Health Action Partners will provide an overview of the work that is planned for 2017, and attendees will learn how to get involved in collaborative efforts to build stronger systems and healthier communities.
Following the morning program and a lunch break, attendees will be able to choose one of three afternoon training and service opportunities to take action and improve the health of our community.
Training and service opportunities from noon to 2:00 p.m. include:
- Volunteering at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama to help pack food into ready-to-go boxes or meal packs for families at risk of hunger (limited volunteer spotsavailable)
- Participating in an Advocacy Matters training led by VOICES for Alabama’s Children to gain a better understanding of the legislative process and learn strategies to become an effective advocate for those you serve
- Volunteering with the Let’s Move Outside! Initiative in a Birmingham park beautification project to ensure visitors have access to a safe and inviting recreational space
The work of the Health Action Partnership in areas such as improving mental health, optimizing healthcare access, advancing health equity, promoting healthy lifestyles and improving the built environment, transportation and safety is designed to support the work of the Bold Goals Coalition’s collaborative approach to ensuring all Central Alabama counties will be ranked in the top 10 for health outcomes in Alabama by 2025.
Please join us on April 7th to learn more about how you can get involved in making Jefferson County and surrounding counties among the healthiest in the state.
