The Project Issue
Children who read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade are far more likely to stay on track and graduate on time. Before 3rd grade, we learn to read. After 3rd grade, we read to learn.
Bold Goal
Increase the percentage of students in Birmingham City Schools who meet the annual growth targets in reading by the end of Grade 3 from 42% to 60% by 2023.
Action
We are streamlining student-centered literacy efforts with Birmingham City Schools (BCS) and community partners through the Bold Goals BCS Action Network, in alignment with the BCS Force for Greatness Strategic Plan. We’re helping ensure continuity in curriculum, training and data across in-school and out-of-school partners.
Impact/Progress
Bold Goals Education’s BCS Action Network was one of just 10 coalitions nationwide to receive a grant from the Together for Students Initiative.
