Project Issue
Only 33% of Walker County adults report that they are physically active on a regular basis.
Bold Goal
Promote well-being by increasing access to spaces that offer and encourage physical activity.
Action
We are working to enhance and expand the outdoor recreational amenities at Walker County Public Lake in Jasper. Using the Walker County Lake Master Plan to guide our work, state and local governments are working together to improve access to spaces where people can be physically active in a wide variety of ways, ranging from from archery, hiking and fishing to mountain biking, kayaking and birding.
Impact/Progress
Additional miles of hiking trails around the lake have been added; and the first accessible elevated shooting platform in Alabama was recently opened at the all-new, two-acre Walker County Community Archery Park at Walker County Lake.
