Free and reduced-price school meals sustain thousands of children in Central Alabama during the school year; but what happens to these students when school is not in session? For many students, summer vacation and holiday breaks place them at risk for significant gaps in service, leaving them hungry and unprepared when school resumes. Help support the expansion of Central Alabama summer feeding programs that are developing innovative, sustainable strategies to close the meal gap, end child hunger and create a healthier summer.
According to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s County Health Rankings, only 50% of Walker County residents have adequate access to locations for physical activity. That statistic, combined with the county's 36% adult obesity rate, demonstrates the great, localized need for affordable and accessible recreational opportunities to promote physical activity in the area. Help support projects dedicated to improving access to recreational outlets that empower individuals to make choices that will positively improve their health.
Did you know that investing in the health of children leads to a stronger, better educated workforce and a stronger economy? Help support school-based efforts to improve mental health training, assessment and treatment of children throughout Central Alabama.
